"Woldemar Rudolf Dogny, 79, died January 3, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia M. Cook; two sons, Trajan W. Dogny (Mastaneh Khoshro) of Brooklyn, NY, and Aidan A. Dogny of Asheville; brother-in-law Kenneth L. Cook of Alexander; and also his long-time friend Dane Killion, who has been like a brother to him. Woldemar was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, on June 30, 1941, to Rudolf and Margot Dogny. His parents separated in the aftermath of World War II, and his mother remarried an American Army officer, Harold Hicks. He and his mother immigrated to the US in 1948, living in New York and New Jersey, and later relocated to western NC. After completing school, Woldemar was proud to serve in the US Army 1964-66. Soon after, he became a naturalized citizen. He worked as an analyst for Akzona in the Nylon Chem Lab and later in monitoring emissions for Champion International. For many years, Woldemar had a passion for motorcycles. He also had a keen intellect and enjoyed learning about this world and worlds beyond. His love of animals brought many smiles to his face. His life was nearly cut short in March 1993 due to complications from heart surgery, enduring a subsequent infection and coma during the Great Blizzard. This left him frail for the remainder of his life, but it did not diminish his curiosity or his poetic heart. Most of all in his life, Woldemar was proud of his two sons, whom he dearly loved, and he knew that they dearly loved him. Woldermar’s service shall be a small private one. Thank you for your calls and blessings."
