Winifred Arzela Willingham Banning

Florence, SC - Winifred Arzela Banning, 94, formerly of Asheville, died Thursday January 30, 2003 at McClouds Medical Center. A native of Elberton, GA, she had resided in Buncombe County since 1924 before moving to Florence in 1996. She retired in 1972 from Memorial Mission where she was house manager for the nurses quarters, a charter member of Grace Baptist Church, former teacher of Bethany Sunday School Class and former president of the Women Missionary Union. She was a daughter of the late Omar George and Zada Belle Hanvey Willingham and wife of the late James Alexander Banning. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Dempsey and Sara Vollett; brothers, George, Buster and Joe Willingham. Surviving are her daughter, Ann Banus and husband, Pete of Florence, SC; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. John T. Tiller officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
