Wilsie Shipman

West Asheville - Wilsie Jeanette Messer Shipman, 95, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Aston Park Health Care Center. A native of Haywood County, she had resided in Buncombe County since 1950. She worked as Secretary/Bookkeeper for G.A. Shipman Plumbing Company and was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church, where she was the oldest living member and served on numerous committees including serving as Secretary/Treasurer of the Sunrisers. She had served as a volunteer with Hall Fletcher Elementary School and formerly active with the Ladies Auxillary of the AMVETS. Mrs. Shipman was the daughter of the late Charles Harrison Messer and Sarah Catherine Lee Messer and wife of Gordon Allen Shipman who died September 3, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her grandsons, Kevin LaFevers and Ezekiel Edmonds; daughter-in-law, Ora Mae Shipman and 5 brothers and 6 sisters. Surviving are her daughters, Sarah Edmonds (Joseph) of Asheville, Nancy Haynes (Donnie) of Swannanoa and Mary Frady (Jerry) of Candler; sons, Rev. Kyle Shipman of Townville, SC, Jack Shipman (Teresa) of Leicester and Charlie Shipman (Susie) of Asheville; foster son, David Kuykendall (Debbie) of Leicester, sister-in-law, Catherine Messer of Asheville; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and special friends, Louise Tallant, Elizabeth Wells and Alma Capps all of Asheville. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Higgins and Rev. Dean Clontz officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 PM Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at the home of Jamie & Allison Frady, 184 Morgan Cove Road, Candler.
