Willye Velda Stevens

Asheville Willye Velda Stevens, 87, of Laurels of Green Tree Ridge went to be with her Lord Saturday, March 17, 2007 following a period of declining health. A native of Wilkes County, she had lived in Asheville prior to moving to Travelers Rest, SC where she resided for several years and was a member of Renfrew Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Robert William McBride and Mary Lou Nina Edwards McBride and wife of the late Steven Buddy Stevens, Sr. Also, preceded in death by her Infant Daughter; grandson, Chris Stevens; sisters, Blanche Martin, Bertha Slocum, Jennie Boger and Eura Edwards; brother, Vance McBride. Surviving are her daughters, Marie Sprinkle and husband, Bruce Sprinkle, Sr. and Janice Player and her husband, Nick Player, Sr. all of Asheville; son, Steven Buddy Stevens, Jr. of Greenville, SC; brother, George Vaughn McBride of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Lisa Culbertson (Jack), Bynum Sprinkle, Jr. (Gina), Lori Ledford (Chris), Dan Sprinkle, Stephanie Hutchins (Roger), Jennifer Owen (Mike), Nicholas Player, Jr. (Allyson) and Jacquelyn Player; great-grandchildren, Bethany, Hannah & Graham Culbertson, Jabin, Rebekah, Nathan, Rachel & Andrew Sprinkle, Lauren & Landon Ledford, Morgan Hutchins, Brittany & Alyssa Owen and Olyvia Player; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 1 P.M. Wednesday at Ronda Cemetery in Ronda, NC. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
