Willie Lewis, 79, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018, at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospital. A native of Madison County, he resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He was a son of the late Bailey Lewis and Nepel McDevitt Lewis. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Polly Briggs Lewis; son, Anthony Willie Lewis; brothers: Walter Lewis, and Robert Lewis; and brother-in-law, David Norton. Mr. Lewis was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served multiple tours overseas, and later worked for Overnight Transportation as a Truck Driver and Supervisor for many years. Surviving are his daughter, Stephanie R. Lewis of Leicester; grandson, Hunter Lewis Bullard of Leicester; sisters: Lucille Norton, and Geneva Carver and husband Hayes both of Mars Hill; brothers: James P. Lewis, and Harold Ricky Lewis and wife Sandra both of Marshall; a special sister-in-law, Altha Hoyle of Leicester; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 3 PM Friday, May 11, 2018, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard. The family will received friends for 1 hour prior to service on Friday at the funeral home.
