WILLIAM HENRY "BILL" WHITE, 62, OF 100 BRADLEY STREET DIED WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2000 AT HIS HOME FOLLOWING A PERIOD OF DECLINING HEALTH. A NATIVE OF FLUVANNA COUNTY, VIRGINIA. HE HAD RESIDED IN ASHEVILLE SINCE 1958. MR. WHITE RETIRED IN 1995 AFTER 30 YEARS OF SERVICE WITH THE CITY OF ASHEVILLE STREET DEPARTMENT AND WAS A KOREAN WAR VETERAN SERVING IN THE U.S. ARMY. HE WAS A MEMBER OF NAPLES BAPTIST CHURCH, NAPLES, N.C., WHERE ACTIVE IN ALL CHURCH ACTIVITIES ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH THE CHILDREN OF THE CHURCH. HE WAS A SON OF THE LATE SAMUEL HENRY AND LILLIAN EDNA LANE WHITE AND WAS ALSO PRECEDED IN DEATH BY A BROTHER, WILLARD E. WHITE FORMERLY OF ASHLAND, VIRGINIA. SURVIVING ARE HIS WIFE, SOPHIA BERNICE KING WHITE OF THE HOME; TAMMY WALDROP WITH WHOM HE AND SOPHIA RAISED AS THEIR DAUGHTER; SISTERS, LOUISE MAE GENTRY AND LILLIE JANE NEW BOTH OF ASHLAND, VIRGINIA AND BROTHER, WALTER S. SAMMY WHITE OF ASHLAND, VIRGINIA. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 10:30 A.M. FRIDAY IN THE CHAPEL OF ANDERS-RICE FUNERAL HOME WITH PASTOR FRANK DENNING, PASTOR MIKE MULLIS, SHANNON OWEN AND TINA BREVARD OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE IN PISGAH VIEW MEMORIAL PARK. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS FROM 7 TO 8 P.M. THURSDAY AT THE FUNERAL HOME. MEMORIALS MAY BE MADE TO MOUNTAIN AREA HOSPICE, P.O. BOX 16, ASHEVILLE, NC 28802.
