Asheville William G. Roost, IV, 84, of Timber Trail, went to be with his Lord on Monday, March 20, 2017 after an extended illness. A native of Lansing, Michigan, he made the most important decision of his life at age 11 when he became a born-again Christian. Forever afterward, he preferred to describe himself as just a sinner saved by grace. He entered the Navy upon graduation from Wheaton College (Ill.) and attained the rank of Lieutenant before being discharged to pursue a career in public accounting with the international firm of Ernst & Young. He became a CPA in 1962 and was admitted to the partnership in 1969. From 1974 to 1989, he was the Partner in Charge of Accounting and Auditing for the Michigan District and in 1980, he transferred to the National Office in Cleveland, Ohio to become National Director of Auditing Standards, a position he held until his retirement in 1990. While there, he represented the Firm for three years on the Auditing Standards Board, which sets auditing standards for the public accounting profession. He was a member of the American Institute of CPAs, and the Michigan and North Carolina Associations of CPAs. After retiring to Asheville in 1990, he became an active member of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church, particularly as a member of its Sanctuary Choir and more recently as a member of the Homebound Ministry Team. He served on the Boards of the Asheville Choral Society and the Timbers Condominium Association, and for a time was the Treasurer of each. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sally; five daughters and sons-in-law: Colleen and Ever Smith of Cleveland, Ohio, Carrie and Steve Kasiguran of Oakwood, Ohio, Mindy and Vance McLarren of Phoenix, Arizona, Marcy and Dave Nielsen of Sherwood, Oregon and Becky and Scott Brown of Tempe, Arizona; 19 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and one sister, Barbara Sweetland of Oxnard, California. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Daniel Dockery officiating. Interment will be in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain at 12:00 PM on March 23, 2017 with military honors provided by the US Navy. The family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Homebound Ministry of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church, 283 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801 or Crossfire Ministries, 22 New Leicester Highway, Ste. C, PMB #145, Asheville, NC 28806, or Samaritans Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607. A Video Tribute will be available for a limited time. Click Here
