William Eugene "Bill" Dillaha

Hendersonville - William Eugene Bill Dillaha, 78, of 105 Acorn Drive died Monday August 25, 2003 at Memorial Mission Hospital after an extended illness. A native of Greenbrier, AR., he had lived in the Asheville area for most of his life. He retired due to injuries sustained in the line of duty in 1973 from the Asheville Fire Dept. as a Line Chief. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during WWII, and later as a recruiter from 1976 to 1979. He was a former member and Chairman of the Board of Deacons at Westwood Baptist Church and a present member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was the son of the late William Avery and Pearl Reynolds Dillaha. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Dillaha of the home; daughter, Mary Ann Dellinger of Milledgeville, Ga.; son, Bill Dillaha of Somerset, Ky.; sister, Betty Welch of Ft. Walton Beach, Fl.; grandchildren, Kim Allen, Tim Dillaha, Ken Dellinger, Josh Dillaha and Breez Dillaha and great grandchildren, Andrew Dillaha, Davey Allen and Jacob Allen. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Rev. Ron Fousek officiating and Firemans Honors provided by the Buncombe County Firefighters Association Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be officers from the Asheville Fire and Rescue Department. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
