Asheville - William Ernest June Bug McAbee, 71, of 102 Old Hwy. #20, died Wednesday August 7, 2002 at his home following a long illness. A native of Haywood County, he had resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He retired from Buncombe County in 1997 where he was employed in the maintenance Dept. and had formerly been employed by Sayles Biltmore Bleacheries for 30 years. Mr. McAbee was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and the son of the late Charles Ernest and Grace McAbee. Surviving are his wife, Gladys V. Shipman McAbee of the home; sons, Wayne Eugene McAbee and wife June of Candler, Michael Odell McAbee and wife Judi of Asheville and Charles Homer McAbee and wife Cynthia of Alexander; daughters, Dorothy Juanita Shepherd and husband Frank of Asheville, Tina Grace McAbee of Asheville and Verna Gail McAbee Gentry and husband J.R. of Woodfin; 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dr. James Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M.
