Arden - William Edward Coulby, 87, of 110 Heywood Road, #18-A, passed away Monday, May 8, 2006 at the Asheville Manor. A native of Easton, MD, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1949. He was a member of Arden First Baptist Church and former member of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church. Mr. Coulby was a member of the Lions Club, VFW Post #891 and former member of West Asheville Kiwanis Club. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II. He was the son of the late Charles A. Coulby, Sr. and Florence Ross Coulby and was also preceded in death by his wives; Dorothy Murphy Coulby and Vivian Clark Coulby; brother, Charles A. Coulby, Jr.; and grandson, Phil Coulby. Surviving are his daughter, Margaret Peggy Hayes and husband Charles of Hendersonville; sons; Bill Coulby and wife Jackie of Arden and Lee M. Coulby of Calhoun, GA; grandchildren: Amber Coulby Rice and Cameron Coulby; great-granddaughter, Makenzie Rice; step-grandchildren, Shane and Heath Billingsly; sister, Dorothy Coulby Hickson of Salisbury, MD. Memorial services will be held at 12:30 PM Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. James H. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church, 283 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801 or to the charity of ones choice.
