William Chester Shores

June 27, 1927 — April 25, 2009

Asheville - William Chester Shores, 81, of 315 Old Leicester Highway, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009. A native of Davie County, Mr. Shores had resided most of his life in Buncombe County. He retired from Burlington Industries as an Overseer in the Carding Department. He attended Crossroads Assembly of God. Mr. Shores was an avid musician. Church music was his life, playing the accordion every Sunday morning. He had also played all over the Southeast, as well as playing several shows with the USO during World War II. He was the founding member of the Yoldling Ramblers. Mr. Shores was the son of the late Chester and Maude Donnahue Shores, and was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Annie Mae Coxie Shores, of the home; daughter, Rena S. Jennings and husband Ed of Asheville; son, Randy Shores and wife Brenda of Weaverville; granddaughters: Cindy Padgett, Aimee Rogers and Tracey Reeder; great-grandchildren: Karissa, Kaila, Kimi, Allison, and Sarah, all of whom Paw loved; and one brother, Charles Ray Shores of Ashboro. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday at Crossroads Assembly of God, with the Rev. Bob Chuprevich and Rev. Ed Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-5 PM Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
