William Alonzo Field

Asheville - William Alonzo Field, 80, of 86 Raleigh Road, died Sunday July 20, 2003 at the Asheville V. A. Medical Center. A native of Henderson County, he had lived most of his life in Buncombe County. He was retired from the U.S. Government as a Weather Technician. He was a W.W. II Army Veteran and a member of Reed Memorial Baptist Church. His interests where his grandchildren, gardening and history. He was the son of the late Clifford and Ruth Brittain Field and husband of the late Laura Wakefield Field. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Field Mauldin. Surviving are his sons, Les Field and wife, Elizabeth of Fairview and David Field of Asheville; daughter, Catherine Field of Asheville; sister, Freda OBrien of Asheville and 8 grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Reed Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Melton and Mr. Dick Oyler officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Anders-Rice Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
