Asheville - Weldon Franklin Penley, Jr., 59, of 4 Ace Drive went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, December 2, 2010. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a 1969 Graduate of A.C. Reynolds High School and attended A.B. Tech. Mr. Penley retired in 1989 from Hayes & Lunsford Electrical Company following 17 years of service where serving as Journeyman Electrician. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Chairman of the Deacon Board for the past 4 years. He also was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Swannanoa Masonic Lodge #561 and was a member of the Haw Creek Lions Club where he was former President. Mr. Penley was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Floyd Pinkney Penley and Louise Jackson Penley and maternal grandparents, Charlie B. Wilson and Myrtle Reed Wilson. Surviving are his parents, Weldon F. Penley, Sr. and Aeline Wilson Penley of Asheville; wife of 40 years, Jeanette Teague Penley of the home; children, Jennifer Penley Wilson and husband Mark, Christy Penley Weatherman and Andrew Franklin Penley all of Asheville; grandchildren, Miranda Weatherman, Christian Weatherman and Ethan Penley; sister, Portia Penley Gough and husband Max of Black Mountain; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. John Honeycutt, Rev. Everette C. Haney, Jr. and Rev. Dr. Keith Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Baker, Josh Candler, Eric Dimsdale, Jason Owens, Adam Teague and James Wise. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home and at other times, the family will be at the residence. Memorial may be made to Riverside Baptist Church Building Fund, 871 Riverside Drive, Asheville, NC 28804.
