Leicester - Webb Allen Morgan, 62, of Leicester, died Monday, April 8, 2013 at his home in the Newfound Community. Mr. Morgan was born April 21, 1950 in Buncombe County to the late Cansler Buddy Morgan and the late Della Anders Morgan. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Glennan Mehaffey. Mr. Morgan had resided in Buncombe County all his life. He was formerly president and co-founder of Webb A. Morgan & Associates Land Surveyors. Mr. Morgan was a licensed professional land surveyor in both North Carolina and Tennessee with over 39 years of experience. He had worked for the NC Department of Transportation and Ray E. Anders before establishing his own surveying company. He designed and wrote many computer software systems for many surveying firms throughout NC and specialized in GPS and GIS applications. He was the 1995 President of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors and the Western Chapter. He served on many boards at the local and state levels. He was also a committee member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, who brought the first elk to Cataloochee. He served 10 years on the Buncombe County Board of Equalization and Review, member of the American Congress of Surveying and Mapping, and American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. He also served on the Surveying Technology Curriculum Advisory Board for Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College. Mr. Morgan loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being with his many friends. He was also an accomplished bass guitar player and played with several country and gospel groups. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be deeply missed by all. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Melinda Sluder Morgan; daughter, Autumn Radcliff and husband Keith; granddaughters: Bailey and Morgan Radcliff, all of Leicester; sisters: Dot Cole of Greenville, SC, Freida Dean Terrell and husband Joe of Clyde; brother, Joe R. Morgan and wife Millie Way of both North Carolina and South Carolina; brother-in-law, Dale Mehaffey of Leicester; sisters-in-law: Kay McCracken, Joy Cipar and husband Dale, and Kathryn Sluder; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Stephanie Flynn, Kerri Sellers, and Tammie Chandler, as well as all the others who took such good care of Mr. Morgan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at Trinity Baptist Church, with Pastor Ralph Sexton and Pastor Allen Rash officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 PM Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund, 216 Shelburne Road, Asheville, NC 28806. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the Morgan family.
