W.D. Sr. Reed

December 6, 1930 — July 23, 2010

ASHEVILLE Welzie Deweese W.D. Reed, Sr., 79, of 96 Shelburne Road, went to be with his Lord Friday, July 23, 2010 at Park Ridge Hospital. Mr. Reed was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was a 1949 graduate of Woodfin High School, served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, was a member of Woodfin Baptist Church where he sung in the choir and was active in the church plays and was owner and operator of Reeds Hydraulics Sales & Services. He was a son of the late Everard Henry Jack Reed and Lora Esta Deweese Reed and was also preceded in death by 7 brothers and sisters. Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy Joel Doan Reed of the home; children, Lora Deitz and husband Keith of Candler, Welzie Deweese Reed, Jr. of Asheville, Eddie Reed and wife Thao of Greenville, SC, Donna Blackwell and husband Lesley of Alexander, Mark Reed and wife Sabrina, Bryan Reed and Jeff Reed all of Asheville; sisters, Hulda Honeycutt of Benson and Lucia Sandholzer of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 11 grandchildren, including his grandson, serving on the USS Denver, Ensign Adam Joseph Reed, US Navy stationed in Sasebo, Japan; 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including his special nephew, Jack Honeycutt of Weaverville. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Sprinkle officiating. Entombment will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park. Military rites will be conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Council. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
