Asheville - Wayne W. Woody, 82, of 100 Ramsey Rd. died Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at St. Josephs Hospital. He was a native of Buncombe County and had resided there for most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, WW II, serving in the 101st Airborne Division, Screaming Eagles, 327 Glider Infantry where he was in 4 major battles. Mr. Woody was the son of the late Enoch Berlin and Nonnie King Woody. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Worth, Ray, Dewey, and Jim Woody, and his sisters, Louthenia Wells, Vinnie Huffman, and Mae Parham. Surviving are his wife, Launia Sluder Woody of the home; daughters, Theresa Baker and husband Ron, Sharon Williams and husband Randy, Jeanette Roberts and husband Richard, and Joyce Jones and husband Don all of Asheville; sons, Leon Sluder of Indiana, Jim Sluder and wife Linda, and Brian Rogers both of Asheville, and Bob Sluder and wife Sandra of Weaverville; sisters, Sue Williams of Candler and Macy Bradburn of Weaverville; 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ricky Townsend and Anderson Coffey officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
