Wayne Richard Leonard, Mgysgt, Usmc (Ret.)

Wayne Richard Leonard, MGySgt, USMC (Ret.), 83, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, at his home.


A native of Asheville, he was a son of the late Carl Alvin Leonard and Beatrice Bass. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Harmon, and brother, Robert “Bob” Bass.


Wayne was a proud Marine having served his county for 29 years until retirement in September 1989. As a career Marine, he served in the Vietnam War and received many awards including: Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medals, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Merit Unit Comm Cross of Gal with Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, Combat Action Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Purple Heart Award, and letters of Appreciation. He was also active with the Marine Corps Reunion, Charlie 1/4 of Marion.


Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Karen T. Leonard; children: Christina Leonard (Chris Ramsey), Benjamin Leonard, Barbara Crosby (Gene), and Kevin Rheault (Adrianne Choiniere); grandchildren: Christopher Leonard, Caitlin Ramsey, Cozette Moore, Wionona Choiniere, and Arzelee Choiniere; and many cousins and extended family.


A time of remembering and celebrating Wayne’s life will be held from 3 till 5 PM on Friday, July 19, 2024, in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps at 4:15 PM.
