Marshall – Wanda Marie Lance Fender, 75, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 8, 2021 at her residence, with her family by her side. A native of Buncombe County, she had resided in Madison County since December 1982. She was formerly employed with Opportunity Corporation for 15 years as a Social Worker. Mrs. Fender was a daughter of the late Frank Boyce Lance and Robena Ester Cabe Lance and wife of Edwin Blane “Jackie” Fender who died March 23, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Hamlin and brothers, Raymond Maurice Lance and Kenneth Lance. Surviving are her daughters, Sheila Fender Treadway and husband James, Jr. and Sherry Fender Grove and husband Michael all of Marshall; grandchildren, James Treadway, III, Jared Treadway, Wrenn Treadway, Joshua Treadway, Jeremiah Treadway, Jedidiah Treadway and Wynn Treadway; sister, Jean Lance Donati and husband Rev. James of Asheville; brother, Jimmy Lance and wife Sue of Candler; sisters-in-law, Belva Lance of Trade, TN and Lucy Lance of Asheville; aunt, Helen Pressley of Asheville; several nieces and nephews and her best friend, Caroline Moore of Marshall. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday, February 12, 2021 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Rev. Jimmy Dean Hensley and Rev. David Ingram officiating. Burial will follow in Laurelton Chapel Cemetery, Foster Creek. Mrs. Fender will lie in state from 10 AM to 4 PM Thursday at the funeral home for those who wish to come by. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Kendall Sawyer, Kathy Russell and all the folks with Compassionate Care of WNC for their love and support given to our mom and family during this time.
