Weaverville - Walter M. McGuire, 95, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013. His twinkling blue eyes are making Heaven a little brighter today. A native of Rock Hill, SC, in York County, he was the son of the late Walter M. and Sudie Brunson McGuire, and the husband of Virginia Eller McGuire, who died June, 2002. He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Beatrice Papinella; sisters: Anne Mae Walters, Virginia Roberts and Ruby Mosca; and brother, Mannie McGuire. Dock retired from ABF Truck Lines as a mechanic after serving his country in WW II as a US Army aircraft mechanic. An active member of The Refuge Christian Center in Asheville, Docks unwavering faith in God was evident in the way he lived his life. He was a shining example of Christianity. His peaceful, patient nature made him the greatest husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who ever lived. In his later years, everyone knew him as Granddaddy, for he was a loving, kind man to all. Surviving are his son, Rev. Michael T. McGuire and wife Brenda of Weaverville; daughter, Jeanette M. Jackson and husband George of Grand Bay, AL; beloved grandchildren: Tim Burchette and wife Charlene of Mars Hill, Alan Young and wife Julie of Mars Hill, Melissa Johnson and husband James of Grand Bay, AL, Wesley Young of Denver, CO, Brandon McGuire and wife Mandy of Weaverville, and Amanda McGuire of Weaverville; great-grandchildren: Samantha Adams and husband Chance of MS, Colton King of Ocean Springs, MS, Brandon Burchette of Boca Raton, FL, Austin Burchette of Mars Hill, Kathryn and Kaitlyn Young of Mars Hill, Lilith (Lilly) Young of Las Vegas, NV, and Abbygail and Michael McGuire of Weaverville; great, great-granddaughter, Layken Michelle Adams of MS; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Troy Rogers and Rev. Larry Nix officiating. Burial will follow in the McGuire Family Cemetery on Longs Chapel Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Rev. Michael McGuire, 196 Longs Chapel Road, Weaverville, NC.
