Walter James Russell

Asheville - Walter James Russell, 88, of 50 State Street, died Tuesday August 14, 2001 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired from the city of Asheville with 30 years of service. He was a member of West Asheville Church of God on State Street. He was the son of the late Luther and Molly Maynor Russell. Surviving are his wife, Vennie Holder Russell of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Joan Pressley Russell of Asheville; sister, Magdeline Jean Bowles of Jacksonville, Fl.; grandchildren, Kathleen Russell of Hampstead, N.H., Mark Russell of North Franklin, Ct., Shawn Russell of Lisbon, Ct., Scott Russell of Sanford, Fl., Elizabeth Russell of Asheville, Christopher Russell of Preston, Ct. and 9 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Billy Clement officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
