Walene Treadway

September 12, 1929 — May 15, 2011

Asheville Walene Rue Woody Treadway, 81, died Sunday May 15, 2011 at Pardee Hospital after an extended illness. A native of Madison County, she had lived in Buncombe County most of her life and was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Hally Burton Woody and Georgia Etta Woody and the wife of the late George Harrison Treadway. She loved family, people, nature and little animals and she shared her love of sweet Jesus with everyone she knew. She was a loving mother and wonderful homemaker and loved to work in her garden where she said she felt the closest to the Lord. She was a country girl from Madison County and was proud of her heritage and humble upbringing. She was a strong Democrat and Tar Heel fan and a lover of all sports. She gathered people to her like the rays of the sun and gave wise counsel to all that came to her door. There was always a cup of coffee and uplifting conversation to be had in her kitchen and she gave generously to loved ones and many charities. Her laughter and quick wit made everyone smile and she always found the good in everyone she chanced to meet. Her love was forever and she gave it freely and unconditionally. She was especially gifted at loving and giving of herself to the less fortunate and will be loved and remembered forever because of it. Her family will miss her so very much but we will see her again in Heaven. Surviving are her daughter, Debi Rhodes and husband, Brian of Flat Rock; grandchildren, Amber Felix of Asheville and Seth and Ashley Rhodes both of Flat Rock; great grandchildren, Katelyn and Wesley Ponder, Jadan and Josiah Felix and Elijah Rhodes; sister, Melba Williams of Weaverville and brother, Hayden Woody of Ann Arbor, Michigan and special friends, Ronnie Barnes and Karen Stephenson. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Phil Willett officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
