Viola Eugenia Hooker

June 16, 1924 — August 15, 2023

Newton, NC – Viola Eugenia Capps Hooker, 99, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the Abernethy Laurels Health Care Center.


A native of Madison County and a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life until moving to Catawba County in 2002. She retired from Magnavox where she served as an assembler, was a member of the Senior Morning Out for Senior Citizens of Newton and attended Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover.


Mrs. Hooker was a daughter of the late Andrew Capps and Leona Crane Capps and also preceded in death by her son, Jerry Hooker, two sisters and her baby brother.


Surviving are her children, Patricia Hurley (Ray) of Newton, Barbara Sluder (Royce) and Carl Hooker (Carol) of Kingston, Utah, 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


Graveside services will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, August 18, 2023, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Ron Reep officiating.


The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Carolina Caring Hospice of Catawba County and Abernethy Laurels Health Care Center for the love, respect and care given to our mom during this time.
