Vida Reid-Stines

Asheville - Vida Earlene Lockman Reid-Stines, 81, passed away Tuesday June 29, 2010. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the former owner and operator of Town and Country Mobile Home Park and Vi-Grace Flowers and was a member of Malvern Hills Presbyterian Church. She was devoted to her family and her community service work. She was a member of VFW Post # 891 Ladies Auxiliary where she was a former President, Secretary and Treasurer. She had also served as the VFW Post #891 leader of the Junior Girls and held many chairmanships with Voice of Democracy & Youth Programs. Vida was the District 16 president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in 1983 and State President in 1989. On the VFWA Department, she had held numerous Chairmanships for National and State programs. She had volunteered for more than 1000 hours with the Asheville VA Medical Center. In the Salvation Army Auxiliary in West Asheville, she had served as chairman for the Easter Egg Hunt for Children in the Asheville Area for many years. She had also worked with the Lions Club for the blind and was a former president of Johnston Elementary School PTA and former president of the Buncombe County Council on Ageing. Vida was a daughter of the late Fred and Inez Lockman and was also preceded in death by her former husband Albert E. Reid and her sister, Lucille Watkins. Surviving are her husband, Harold Stines of the home; daughter, Donna Reid Hughes of Asheville; son, Brian Kevin Reid of Dallas, TX; sister, Gladyce Teague of East Granby, CT; 3 grand children, David, Aaron and Lauren and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with VFW Chaplain A.G. Parker and Rev. Charles Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
