Vestie R. Surrett

Asheville – Vestie Estelle Richey Surrett, 93, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at the Laurels of Summit Ridge. A native of Caldwell County, she had resided in Buncombe County since August of 1963. She retired as a registered nurse with the V.A. Medical Center following 30 years of service and worked for 4 years at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center. She was a member of Groce United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Women, and a member of the Air National Guard from 1961 to 1963. Mrs. Surrett was the daughter of the late Moses Prater Richey and Fannie Estelle Frye Richey, and wife of Norman Surrett who died January 30, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Blanche Richey, Lucy Little and Ruth Hall and brothers, Quez Richey and Arnold Richey. Surviving are her son, Edward Surrett and wife Cindy, and granddaughter, Madison Surrett all of Stony Point, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday, March 18, 2022 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Rev. Gerald Davis and Rev. Andrea McCumber officiating. A private burial will be at Big Sandy Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.
