Vera W. Elkins

Asheville Vera Warren Elkins, 96, passed on to her Heavenly home on Monday, June 4, 2012. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late Melvin and Ellen Brooks Warren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Elkins who died May 24, 1994 and 4 sisters and 4 brothers. She retired in 1986 from Mars Manufacturing at the age of 70, formerly attended Averys Creek Baptist Church and formerly sung with the Joyland Trio. Surviving are her daughters, Irene Gosnell of Candler, Jan Hart (Jim) and Joyce Dover-Evans (Phil) of Asheville; 8 grandchildren, Vickie Craig of Canton, Jeffrey and Charley Dover and Sherri Dover Buckner of Asheville, Jan Haring of Pace, FL, Diana Marler of Asheville, Amy Shelton of Gray, TN and David Livengood of Hendersonville; 11 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren; and brother, Frank Warren of Asheville. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Fox and Pastor Everette C. Haney, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
