Vera Ellen Mcclure

Asheville - Vera Ellen Carter Ray McClure, 94, of 91 Victoria Road died Saturday, March 29, 2003 at the Blue Ridge Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. Mrs. McClure was a native and resident for many years in Yancey County and had resided in Asheville since 1968. She retired as a First Grade School Teacher having taught at Bald Creek and Sand Hill Elemetary Schools for over 37 years. She was a graduate of Asheville Normal Teachers College and of Appalachian Teachers College. Mrs. McClure was a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville and while living in Yancey County was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Swiss. She was the daughter of the late Lattie R. and Nora Idella Hensley Carter and the wife of her late first husband, Edgar William Ray, Sr. and her late second husband, Robert Garrett McClure, Sr. Surviving are her son, Edgar William Billy Ray Jr. of Asheville; grandchildren, Vera Tiffany Ray of Miami, Florida and and Benjamin Wayne Ray of Charlotte; great grandson, Tristan Ray. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Asheville with the Rev. Robbin Mundy officiating. Burial will be held at Ray Family Cemetery in Yancey County. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
