Velma Johnson "Buz" Catlin

Arden - Velma Clarke Johnson Buz Catlin, 87, of 222 Glenn Bridge Rd. Apt #e-39 died Saturday February 16, 2002 at the Laurels of Summit Ridge. A native of Bobbit, N.C., she resided in Meadville, Penn.. prior to moving to the Hendersonville area in 1978. She was the former Aquatic Director at the YMCA in Meadville, Penn.. and was a world class swimmer and instructor for over 60 years. She was the daughter of the late Joseph William and Dora Dotson Duke Johnson and the wife of the late Henry Livingston Catlin, Jr. who died January 25, 1991. Surviving are her sons, H. Douglas Catlin of Fairview, William Joseph Catlin and John Livingston Catlin both of Meadville, Penn..; daughter, Diann C. Dewberry of Arden; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Antone Tony Abbott officiating. Burial will be in the Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M, Monday at the funeral home.
