Velda T. Clark

November 24, 1920 — January 11, 2019

Asheville Velda Ada Taylor Clark, 98, passed away Friday, January 11, 2019 at the WNC Baptist Home. A native of Marshall, Mrs. Clark had resided in Buncombe County for most of her life. She retired in 1988 from JC Penny as the manager of the Boys Department following over 38 years of service. She attended Alexander Baptist Church. Mrs. Clark was the daughter of the late Joe and Ossie Ball Taylor, and the wife of Hugh Alvin Clark, who passed away in September of 1998. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Zora Rice and Rebecca Parham; and brother, Guy Roland Taylor. Surviving are her son, Kenneth Hugh Clark (Virginia Taylor) of Asheville; grandsons: Kevin Hugh Clark of Asheville and Kenyon Heath Clark (Molly) of Knoxville, TN; great-grandchildren: Lydia, Seth and Josie; sister, Ila Hunter of Weaverville; companion and caregiver, Joyce Brigman of Asheville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald Sprinkle officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alexander Baptist Church, % Shirley Golden, 1179 Old Hwy #20, Alexander, NC 28701. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the WNC Baptist Home for the love and care shown to their family.
