Asheville - Vance Levi Hamlin, 76, of 140 Jonestown Road died Thursday December 12, 2002 at his home after an extended illness. A native of Buncombe County, he moved back to Asheville in 1984. He retired from Chrysler Co. in 1980 and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was a son of Sarah Blanch Hamlin of Woodfin and the late Guy Arthur Hamlin and was also preceded in death by a son, James L. Lunsford and brother, Bill Hamlin. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Chrystina of the home; daughter-in-law, Doris Lunsford of Burnsville; granddaughter, Ginger Tipton and husband Tommy; great grandchildren, Tyler and Emily Tipton; sisters, Roselee Harwood, Eloise Privitt and Jean Hamlin; brothers, James Hamlin and wife Beadie and Bernie Hamlin and lots of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Jay Blankenship and Lewis Melton officiating. Burial will be in Elk Mountain Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
