Troy Sams

December 14, 1934 — August 28, 2008

Alexander - Troy Lee Sams, 73, of 20 Nim Ridge passed away Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native of Madison County, he resided in Buncombe County most of life. He retired in 2005 from Silvers Auto House and was formerly employed with Harrys Cadillac. He attended Caney Fork Baptist Church and formerly attended French Broad Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Sams was a son of the late Burnette Sams and Mae Edwards Sams. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Morris Sams; sister, Barbara Sams and nephew, Donald Sams. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Ann Hughes Sams whom he married January 17, 1959, of the home; daughters, Helen Payne & husband, David of Alexander, Brenda Cassels & husband, James of Asheville and Mary Sluder & husband, Mike of Alexander; grandchildren, Janice Payne, David Payne, Jr., Derick, Ashley & Amber Cassels, Lee Ann Sluder, Michael Sluder, Jr. and Matthew Sluder; sister, Louise Sams of Alexander; brother, Ernest Sams & wife, Juanita of Alexander; nieces, Linda Nash of Marshall and Wanda Howell of Greeneville, TN and lifelong friend of 65 years, Gilbert Wilson of Alexander. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Howard Self and Rev. Bill Brown officiating. Burial will follow in French Broad Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Howell, Justin Howell, Grady Howell, Eddie Nash, Dalton Nash and Daniel Nash. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
