LEICESTER Talmadge Tom Henson, 80, of 91 Leet Sluder Road passed away Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the Asheville VA Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he had resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Henson served over 7500 hours at the Asheville VA Medical Center as a volunteer and served 10 years as the Commander of the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team. He was a son of the late Vegie Mae Henson and husband of the late Louise Clark Henson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Mack, Howard and Von. Surviving are his daughters, Trudy Sluder & husband Rusty of Leicester and Debra Stevens & husband Bob of Stone Mtn, GA; grandchildren, Kelly & husband Josh Montcastle, Colby, Josh, Scott, Ashley, Whitney, Bobby and Ronnie; brother, Bobby Henson & wife Shirley of Atlanta, GA. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Tuesday in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team officiating. Pallbearers will be Roger Smith, Junior Clark, Greg Clark, Rusty Sluder, Josh Montcastle and Clyde Clark. The family will receive friends 12 to 1:30 P.M. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
