Thomas "Jake" Jackson Bell

March 15, 1931 — January 27, 2024

Candler – Thomas “Jake” Jackson Bell, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at his residence while surrounded by family.


A native of Cherokee County, he resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He was a son of the late Robert Thomas Bell and Laura Blanche Chastain Bell, and the husband of the late Elma June Payne Bell who passed away on September 19, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Donald Bell and Norman Bell.


Mr. Bell was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church for 70 years where he helped to build the current church building while serving as the Co-Chair of the Building Committee. He also served the church as Chairman of the Deacons, and member of the Finance Committee as well as many other ways over the years.


Surviving are his daughter, Angela Bettina Bell; granddaughters: Melanie Claire Padgett, and Victoria Alexis Padgett; sister, Ruth Shaffer; and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Edgewood Baptist Church, 61 Moody Avenue, Candler, NC 28715. Pastor Keith Lindsey will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army.


The family will receive friends from 11 AM till 12 PM on Saturday at the church.


The Bell family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Four Seasons Hospice for their exceptional care and support given to Mr. Bell and his family.
