Thomas J. Flynn

Alexander - Thomas J. Flynn, 80, died Saturday June 1, 2002 at Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center. A native of New York City, NY he had resided in Buncombe County since December of 1977. He retired in 1977 after 25 years of service with Hostess Cake, was an W.W.II Army Veteran where a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. He was a member of the Florida Chapter of the Century Division and St. Eugenes Catholic Church. Mr. Flynn was former owner and operator of Flynns Cash and Grocery in Alexander and served as president of several bowling leagues at Star Lanes Bowling Center. He was a son of the late Thomas George and Anna Magee Flynn. Surviving are his wife, Beverly Jane Hitchcock Flynn of the home; daughters, Carol Flynn Perez and husband, George of Sanford, Florida and Barbara Ann Smith and husband James of Gibsonville; grandsons, Jason Sigurd Aanonsen of Asheville and Michael Thomas Aanonsen of Gibsonville; sister, Elizabeth Greubel of Massapequa, NY; brothers, Harry Flynn of San Sebastian, Puerto Rico and Robert Flynn of Surprise, AZ and several nieces and nephews. A private military service will be held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team officiating. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. A memorial service will be held at St. Eugenes Catholic Church at a later date.
