Thom Koontz, Jr.

WEAVERVILLE - Thomas Gale “Thom” Koontz, Jr., 72, of 2 Cornelia Drive, went to be with the Lord Monday, October 16, 2023, at his residence.

Thom was born in Biloxi, MS to the late Lt. Col Thomas Gale Koontz and Hazel “Little Bit” Mayes McCarter Koontz and moved to Asheville at the age of 15.

He was a 1969 Graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School, attended UNC-Asheville and received his bachelor's degree in Sociology from UNC-Wilmington where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.

Thom formerly served as a Regional Director of Operations for Autumn Care Nursing Facilities in Western North Carolina. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved working in his garden.

Surviving are his daughters, Heather Elizabeth Israel (Alan) of Candler and Ashley Ann Grant (Matthew) of Woodfin; grandchildren, Skyler, McKinley and Finn; and his cat, Midnight.

A Time of Remembrance will be held from 4 to 6PM Friday, October 27, 2023, at his residence.
