Therlow Worth Lanning

October 22, 1933 — February 6, 2016

Therlow Worth Lanning, 82, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 6, 2016. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he grew up in Biltmore and graduated from Biltmore High School. He worked for the Asheville Citizen-Times Newspaper and retired after 42 years of service. Therlow was a member of Victory Baptist Church where he served as: Deacon, helped with the Meals on Wheels Ministry, sang in the choir, and was part of a quartet. He was well known for his Tenor singing voice. He was a son of the late Claude Isaiah Lanning and Margaret Grant Lanning. He was also preceded in death by his wife Jane Smith Lanning, and brother, Jake Lanning. He is survived by his sons: Chris Lanning and wife Judy of New York, NY, and Brent Lanning and wife Vikkie of Alexander; grandchildren: Jordan Lanning Humphrey (Mark), Taylor Lanning (Fianc Austin Underwood), Hillary King (Andrew), Preston Lanning, Felicity Lanning, and Caleb Baliles; great grandchildren: Landon King, and Aubree King; several nieces and nephews, and one great grandson on the way. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Sprinkle and Rev. Mark Chase officiating. A private burial will follow at the Lanning-Pittillo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the Lanning family. The family will receive friends from 5 till 7 PM on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Meals On Wheels, 146 Victoria Road, Asheville, NC 28801.
