Theodore Nelson "Ted" Graves

Candler Theodore Nelson (Ted) Graves passed away Saturday, January 3, 3009. He was born in January 14, 1929 in Graysville, TN to Susan Ruth and Alfred Nelson Graves. On August 9, 1950, he married Mary Jane Farrell, and in 1953, he entered the ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, first as a pastor, next as a youth leader, then in the educational work of the church. While teaching, he earned a Masters Degree in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Denver. The last 19 years of his career were spent at Mount Pisgah Academy in Candler, always as a teacher and counselor, sometimes as vice-principal, and a few years as principal, but teaching young people and counseling were his preference. He was a member of the Mount Pisgah Academy Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Alfred and Annie Lee Graves; mother and step-father, Ruth and John Vincent; sister, Patsy Graves, and an infant brother, Johnny Vincent. He is survived by Mary Jane, his beloved wife of 58 years; son, Ted, Jr. of Denver, CO; son, Tim and wife Robin of East Ridge, TN; granddaughters: Rachele Graves of Atlanta, GA and Kelly Graves of East Ridge; brother, Bill Vincent and wife Susan of Soddy-Daisy, TN; sisters-in-law: Catherine Ritchie of Egnar, CO, Lila Morgan of Columbus, NC, Anna Jean Allen and husband Paul of Seattle, WA, and Tommie Sue Burchard of Dayton, TN; and a number of nieces and nephews. Those who wish to do so may make memorial donations to the Student Aid Fund, Mount Pisgah Academy, 75 Academy Drive, Candler, NC 28715. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Mount Pisgah Academy Seventh-day Adventist Church, 21 Academy Drive, Candler, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the Graves family.
