Thelma Marie Best

Asheville – Thelma Marie Best, 84, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at the J.F. Keever Solace Center.

A native of McDowell County, she has resided in Buncombe County most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Samuel Oliver Effler and Bessie Mae Calloway Revis and was also preceded in death by 3 children, Harry Effler, Linda Effler and Ricky Blankenship: brother, Eugene Effler and sister, Norma Priscilla Effler.

Mrs. Best was a clerk for many years with the Ice Services Stores in Asheville with most of her time at the Brevard Road location. She was a devoted homemaker and caregiver having helped raised her siblings, children, and grandchildren.

Surviving is her son, Leonard J. Effler with whom she made her home; 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren; sisters: Ruby Jo Robinson and husband Jimmy of Gastonia and Patricia Fuller of Barnardsville; brother: Roy Edward Effler of Marshall; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2PM Friday, December 1, 2023 at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with the Rev. Billy Dodd officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jesse Effler, Noah Effler, Jason Effler, Doug Effler, Michael Wheeler, and Keith Sisk.
