Thelma Johnson

July 11, 1921 — July 30, 2017

Candler Thelma Lee Morgan Johnson, 96, went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 30, 2017 at her home. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mrs. Johnson retired from American Enka Corp. following 20 years of service and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Parley and Anna Morgan, and the wife of the late James Willie Johnson, who passed away November 26, 1989. She was also preceded in death by a son, Master Chief Joseph Paul Johnson, US Navy (retired); five sisters, six brothers, and daughter-in-law, Wanda Johnson. Surviving are her daughters: Wilma J. Foster and Gloria Jean Johnson, both of Candler; sons: Robert Floyd Johnson of Candler and Earl Louis Johnson of Limestone, TN; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and four great, great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 1, 2017 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bobby Winebarger officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
