Terry R. Smith

Arden – Terry Smith, 88, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Advent Health Hendersonville. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Dewey Daniel Smith and Retha Spivey Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Judy Ann Smith; and brother, Clyde Anderson Smith. Mr. Smith was a longtime member of Brookstone Church and the former Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and was employed with the City of Asheville for 56 years until retirement as the Head Superintendent at the Asheville Civic Center. Surviving are his daughter, Terry Thomas and husband Clinton; son, Jesse Allen Smith; grandchildren: Brandon Smith, and Ryan Thomas; sister, Hazel Jones; and brother, Larry Dennis Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, February 28, 2022, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Pastor Sandy McClaren and Rev. Brandon Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1 till 2 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
