Asheville - Steve Ronald Riddle (aka, Whiskers), native of Asheville, NC, passed away unexpectedly from cardiac arrest on January 1, 2019, after an extended battle with cancer. He leaves behind his wife and love of his life of 20 years, Debbie Metcalf (and their faithful fur baby, Etta James); mother-in-law, Imogene Rice Metcalf; sister-in-law, Donna Pittman; and nephew, Ronnie Riddle. He is preceded in death by his mother, Eloise Blankenship Sawyer and father, Plato Riddle; and two brothers, Plato Wesley Riddle and Charles Riddle. Steve served in the USMC for 6 years, receiving the Purple Heart and other accommodations. He drove a taxi cab for 40+ years in Asheville, making friends far and wide. He also proudly worked for a few years at the Charles George VA Medical Center in the Housekeeping Department, serving our nations veterans. He was very appreciative of the continued efforts on the part of Dr. Puckett, Ginger, Brad, and others in the Oncology Department during his battle with cancer. Steve was also extremely grateful to Dr. Robert Conklin at Carolina Vascular for his unending expertise and positivity towards Steve, while treating his cancer. Sincere thanks to everyone who worked to make his life better and more hopeful. A memorial visitation will be held from 4:30 - 6:30 PM Saturday, January 5 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. In lieu of flowers, Steve would be honored if you donated what you could to the Asheville Animal Shelter or to Brother Wolf. He was an avid animal lover.
