Stanley A. Briggs

Stanley A. Briggs, 95, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, December 30, 2022, at the CarePartners Solace Center.

Stanley was born on April 22, 1927, to Lyda and Birttie Rhoades Briggs. He graduated from Woodfin High School and Cecil’s Business College. Stanley was the owner of Stanley A. Briggs Custom Furniture for 61 years, working until the age of 92 and retiring on May 30, 2019.

Stanley designed and built furniture to furnish several homes in Western North Carolina, Ocala Florida, and has crafted furniture in almost every state. Some of his accomplishments include the pulpit and alter furniture for Billy Graham at the Cove, Trinity Baptist Church, West Asheville Baptist Church, and Arden Presbyterian Church. Stanley loved his work and the people he worked for.

Stanley was a devoted and faithful longtime member of West Asheville Baptist Church, having served as deacon, former choir member, and member of the Fishers of Men Sunday School Class. He loved Gospel music, and at one time sang with Riley Smith and The Tonemasters.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Ollie Mae, Virginia Holcombe, Ruby Sullivan, and Edna Crook.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 74 years, Juanita Luther Briggs and many extended family and friends.

A Funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, January 2, 2023, at West Asheville Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Stan Welch and Rev. Tony Hooper officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 till 4 PM on Monday at the Church.

A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 5, 2023, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in Stanley’s memory to the West Asheville Baptist Church, Building Fund, 926 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
