Spencer Floyd "Spence" Massey

Weaverville Spencer Floyd Spence Massey, 72, of 353 Monticello Road, died Friday, May 9, 2008 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was a Wood Craftsman and Farmer, retiring as a Supervisor from a Furniture Manufacturing Company. He was a son of the late Rev. O.C. Massey and Lovada Buckner Massey and also was preceded in death by three brothers, Harrison, Fletcher and J.C. Massey; four sisters, Clara Gaddy, Marie Rice, Lucy Rice and Roxie Lister and great-grandson, Spencer Austin Shelton. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Betty Young Massey of the home; four children, Nancy Shelton and husband, Dallas of Asheville, Floyd Massey and wife, Ginger of Horse Shoe Run, WV, Rev. Jeffrey Massey and wife, Teresa of Asheville, Rev. Roger Massey and wife, Rachel of Weaverville; sisters, Elsie Davis of Alexander and Judy Mathis of Asheville; brothers, Rev. George Massey and Joseph Ott Massey both of Weaverville; 10 grandchildren, Tony Shelton (Hailey), Melody Laster (Tim), Megan Shelton, Crystal Massey, Danielle Massey, Samantha Massey, George Massey, Joshua Massey, Hannah Massey & Rebekah Massey; 3 great-grandchildren, Dylan & Mikayla Shelton and Taylor Laster. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Revs Charles Rogers and J.R. Plemmons officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 PM Monday at the funeral home.
