Sonny White

Bakersville, NC – James Marlin “Sonny” White, 77, of 721 Whitson Branch Road, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 6, 2022 at the Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. A native of Pine Bluff, AR, he had resided in Bakersville for over 2 years and was a former resident of Buncombe County. He was an Automobile Salesman and a US Marine Corps veteran during the Vietnam War. Mr. White was the son of the late Edwin Beaty White and Lucille Simons White and was also preceded in the death by his sons, Ryan White and Chris Jones; brother, Festus White and grandson, Marques Austin. Surviving are his wife whom he married June 20, 2001, Becky Louise Jones White of the home; children, Adam White, Jerri “Sissy” Stowe and husband, Bryan all of Bakersville, Wendy White of Savannah, GA, Jaime Wilson and husband, Harry, Jr, of Charleston, Jeremiah Jones of Morganton and America White of Clyde; 12 grandchildren, including Alicia Swafford whom he helped raise; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Pritchett of Cartersville, GA, and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 12 Noon Monday, June 13, 2022, in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, with military honors to be conducted by the US Marine Corps. The family will receive friends immediately following services at the cemetery.
