Shirley Shope

Shirley Banks Shope, 86, of Asheville, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022.

She was born to the late Lee and Viola Banks on June 9, 1936, in Pacolet, SC. She retired from the VA Medical Center in Oteen after working as a registered nurse for more than 30 years.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Paul Shope, and her brother, George Banks. She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her son, Dale Shope (Alicia); daughter, Cindy Collins (John); grandson, Dustin Collins (Bri); great-grandson, William Collins; cousins, nieces, nephews, and scores of friends.

The family would like to thank Chelsea, Kathi, Lela, and Marcia for their wonderful care that allowed Shirley to remain in her home as long as possible.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 24, 2022, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Pierce officiating. Shirley will be laid to rest beside her husband in Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery following the service.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 am on Saturday at the funeral home.
