Weaverville – Shirley Ann Maynard Ray, 86, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at her residence. A native of Yancey County, she had resided in Buncombe County most of her life. She retired from Buncombe County School System where she served as a School Bus and Lunchroom Assistant in the North Buncombe District. She was a graduate of North Buncombe High School and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Ray was a daughter of the late James Clyde Maynard and Rena Delno Renfro Maynard and wife of Arthur Lee Ray who died August 3, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys Schindell, Mildred Hensley, Hazel Myers, Louise Rogers and brother, James Clyde “J.C.” Maynard. Surviving are her daughter, Christie Ray Coffey and husband, Rev. Jon B. Coffey of Weaverville; grandchildren, Jonathan Coffey of Weaverville, Joshua Coffey and wife, Anita and Jeremiah Coffey and wife, Mackenzie all of Burnsville; great grandchildren, Jedidiah and Jemma Grace; sister, Faye Gunn of Weaverville; brother, Rev. Derion Lee “D.L.” Maynard of Asheville and brother-in-law, Rev. Troy Rogers of Mars Hill. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, with Rev. Keith Watkins officiating. The family will have a time of gathering from 5 to 7 PM Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
