Shirley A. Deters

Leicester Shirley Ann Simpson Deters, 82, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Louisville, KY, Mrs. Deters had resided in Norwood, NJ for 38 years before moving to Leicester in 2006. She was a 1981 graduate of Bergen Community College with an AAS in Business Administration, and retired in 2001 from the Overseas Sales Department of Volvo Cars of North America following 20 years of service. Mrs. Deters was an active member of Demarest Baptist Church in Demarest, NJ and attended Newfound Baptist Church in Leicester. She had served numerous times as the President of the Norwood Womens Club, PTA President, and an active member of the Norwood Community. She had also performed with the USO throughout the Southeast. Mrs. Deters was the daughter of the late John Truman Simpson and Ida May Linehan Simpson Graves. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, William Arthur Deters; and brothers: Ronald Eugene Simpson and Joseph Douglas Graves. Surviving are her children: Karen Boettcher (Tom) and Carol Lynne Van Putten Vink, all of Leicester, and Robert Arthur Deters (Han Shu Zhen) of Beijing, China; grandchildren: Steven Thomas Boettcher of Boiling Springs, SC, Emma Mai Boettcher and Sarah Isabel Van Putten Vink Rice (Mike), all of Leicester, Arthur William Deters of Oceanside, CA, Jessica Lynne Van Putten Vink of Huntsville, AL, and Nicholas Alexander Deters of Merced, CA; sisters: Judy Haun of Ft. Myers, FL and Janet Morris (Bernie) of Fairdale, KY; brother: Rev. Dr. John Truman Simpson (Marcia) of Marion, IL; her former husband, Arthur H. Deters of Tucson, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of close friends, Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home.
