Asheville - Shelby Jean Waldroup Caldwell, 75, of Asheville, passed away at her home on March 13, 2013, with her family at her side. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Paul J. Caldwell; and daughters, Jacqueline C. Byerly of Asheville and her husband Mike; and Joyce C. Stansell of Greenville, SC and her husband Duke; and four grandsons all of Asheville, Justin Byerly, Grant Byerly and his wife Amanda, Jake Stansell and his wife Christi and Joshua Stansell. She is also survived by her precious mother, Nola C. Waldroup, of Asheville. A native of Madison County and a longtime resident of Buncombe County, she was the only child of the late Floyd Waldroup and Nola Waldroup. She was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. Shelby dedicated her life to her family. She was a full time wife, mother and homemaker. She loved to decorate her home, work in the flower garden, travel and cook. She loved her family and her special girl friends. She loved to exercise at the downtown YMCA- where she was an active member for over 30 years. At age 73 she was the oldest member of the high impact aerobic class. The Caldwell family would like to extend a special thank you to the friends, neighbors and care givers who lifted us up with prayer and support over the past 2 years, especially the nurses from Bright Star Home Health Care and Care Partners Hospice. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 15, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private burial will be held at Green Hills Cemetery.
