ASHEVILLE - SAVANNAH MARJORIE HUGHES HARRIS, 77, OF 200 TUNNEL ROAD DIED SUNDAY, JUNE 17, 2001 AT MEMORIAL MISSION HOSPITAL. A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF BUNCOMBE COUNTY. SHE RETIRED IN 1975 FROM THE ASTON PARK HOSPITAL WHERE SHE SERVED AS A NURSES ASSISTANT FOR SEVEN YEARS.. MRS. HARRIS WAS A DAUGHTER OF THE LATE LEWIS CLAYTON HUGHES AND ALLIE BELLE JOHNSON HUGHES AND WIFE OF HARLEY HARRIS WHO DIED OCTOBER 3O, 1984. SHE WAS ALSO PRECEDED IN DEATH BY A SON, ROBERT EARL SHELTON; GRANDSON, RICKY SHERLIN; SISTER, ADDIE MAE HUGHES AND BROTHERS, ROBERT AND CALVIN HUGHES. SURVIVING ARE HER DAUGHTERS, WANDA G. HARRIS AND HUSBAND, JOSEPH OF WEAVERVILLE AND MARJORIE ANN JONES OF ASHEVILLE; SONS, HARVEY E. SHELTON OF ASHEVILLE; SISTER, ETHEL EMORY OF ASHEVILLE; FIVE GRANDCHILDREN, EIGHT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN AND THREE GREAT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 2 P.M. WEDNESDAY IN THE CHAPEL OF ANDERS-RICE FUNERAL HOME WITH THE REV. DR. RALPH SEXTON, SR. OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE IN GREEN HILLS CEMETERY. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS 7 TO 9:00 P.M. TUESDAY AT THE FUNERAL HOME. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS MEMORIALS MAY BE MADE TO THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION, P.O. BOX 10249, ASHEVILLE, N.C. 28806
