Sarah "Sally" Cheney

Asheville Sarah Thomes Cheney, 89, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at her residence. A native of Fairfield County, CT, she has resided in Asheville for the last 27 years. She was the daughter of the late Franklin and Evelyn Reid Thomes. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Russell F. Thomes, Jr.; and a sister Kay DeCoursey. Sarah was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church. Surviving are her children: Carrie Burton of Charleston, NH, Cathey Finklea of Mt. Angel, OR, Matthew Cheney of Colorado Springs, CO, and Mark Cheney of Bethel, CT. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 6, 2014 on the patio of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, followed by an 11:00 AM service at St. Lukes Episcopal Church on Chunns Cove Road in Asheville.
