Sammy Murdock

June 4, 1936 — April 13, 2021

Elberton, GA – Sammy D Murdock, 84, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at the Care Partners John F. Keever, Solace Center. A native of Mocksville, NC, Mr. Murdock was a retired real estate agent, and was working in the maintenance department of IPS Packaging. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving for twelve years. Mr. Murdock was the son of the late Harvey Goodman and Hester Poole Murdock. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Charlena Tanner Murdock; daughter, Teresa Collins; daughter and son-in-law, Debra Taylor and husband Glenn; three sisters and four brothers. Surviving are his wife, Sue Cochran Turner; son, Phillip Murdock and wife Elaina; step-son, David Johnson and wife Dee Dee; step-daughter, Leslie Ray and husband Sam; grandchildren: Maddy Murdock, Laney Murdock, Charley Taylor and husband Chris Brechbiel, Alison Whitted and husband Sims, Katie Samarel and husband Ethan, and Zach Taylor and wife Britt; step-grandchildren: Albah Ray and Skyler Johnson; eight great-grandchildren; brothers: Jerry Murdock, Gilmer Murdock, Graham Murdock and Johnny Murdock; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery in Hayesville, NC, with the Rev. Paul Creason officiating. The family will begin to gather at 1:30 PM Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars at www.vfw.org, or to WNC Bridge Foundation Grief Support (formerly Care Partners Hospice Foundation), PO Box 1315, Arden, NC 28704. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting Mr. Murdock’s family with arrangements.
